Our tiny rescue is growing! Can’t foster, adopt or donate but still want to get involved with dog rescue? Consider applying to be a volunteer! There are a number of volunteer positions we are looking to fill. We also always need volunteers for the following:
• Phone Calls/Reference Checks
• Virtual Home Visits
• Transportation (ideal if you have a vehicle and valid licence! We are looking for volunteers who can help us with airport pick ups or transport to vet offices for medical appointments (if foster family is unable), transport dogs/supplies to foster homes etc.)
"My name is Gabriella! I’m 33, a full-time hairstylist, supply RECE, Fur Mama to a 6 year old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, and a 2 year old Cocker Spaniel/Shetland Sheepdog, and 2 cats. I began my journey as a foster for Halfway Home K9 Rescue just last November. Since then, as I tell everyone, I’ve never been happier. It has been a very rewarding experience, though puppies are a lot of work… it brings me so much joy to see them happy and safe with their Forever Families. The most common response I get to fostering is “omg I could never do that! I wouldn’t be able to give them up!” Which I thought the same initially too. But it doesn’t feel like giving up at all. Seeing my fosters happy again with someone else brings me a lot of peace, and leaves space for me to foster another. I highly recommend the experience It’s flexible to your lifestyle, if you need a break, there’s no pressure. Halfway Home is a very supporting community of volunteers and we all help each other out. The rescue supplies everything you need. So if you want to live your best life saving the puppies, apply now! You won’t regret it. I have loved the experience so much that I applied and was promoted to reference calling and Adoption Events & Fundraising! So when I don’t have a foster you’ll still catch me advocating for our Northern Rescues and trying my hardest to help get other foster pups adopted! The possibilities are truly endless and I can’t wait to see what else we can accomplish together as a community."

Sadly across Canada, we have a massive dog over-population crisis. We want to support remote communities with much needed veterinary care, which is non-existent in these fly-in only communities. Did you know a single unaltered female dog and her offspring can produce over 67,000 puppies in just 6 years? It takes roughly $20,000 to fund a spay and neuter clinic in a remote community.
With your help, we can assist in better lives for both humans and animals in a Northern community where stray dogs and over-population is a huge issue.
